The journey covers approximately 262 km on well-paved blacktop roads and typically takes 6–8 hours, depending on your riding pace and the time spent on photo stops, rest breaks, and lunch. This scenic route offers spectacular Himalayan views, high mountain passes, pristine lakes, and unforgettable Tibetan landscapes.
During the ride, you will cross the impressive Kamba La Pass (4,850 m) and Karo La Pass (5,050 m). Upon arrival in Shigatse, you will visit the famous Tashilhunpo Monastery, the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama and one of the most important Buddhist monasteries in Tibet. The route passes through the spectacular Tibetan countryside, crossing the famous Pang La Pass (5,150 m), where you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan range, including Mount Everest.
The total riding distance for the day is approximately 185 km, and the journey takes around 6–8 hours, including time for rest breaks, photo stops, and sightseeing. The route covers the ride from Xegar (New Tingri) to Rongbuk Monastery and the Everest Base Camp area before returning to Tingri.
Upon arrival at Rongbuk Monastery, you will have time to explore this remarkable monastery and enjoy magnificent close-up views of Mount Everest (Qomolangma) from the Tibetan side.
Everest Base Camp (Qomolangma Base Camp) is located approximately 8.5 km beyond Rongbuk Monastery. Due to Chinese government regulations, private vehicles and motorbikes are not permitted beyond the designated parking area. Travelers wishing to visit Everest Base Camp can take the official eco-friendly shuttle bus, which operates regularly from the parking area. High Altitude Sickness is known as mountain sickness. If you walk or climb to higher elevation, it appears very quickly so you have to know symptoms of high altitude sickness. If you are wondering why it happens, here are some information. It is from the air pressure. When you go to higher elevation, this air pressure drops down and less oxygen so your body will need time to adjust to change air pressure. According to doctor, it starts from 8,000 feet (2400 meter) if you are from sea level.
Types
There are three types of altitude sickness
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS): it is very common and symptoms feel like a tiredness, dizzy, headache, thirsty, muscle aches, nausea
High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE): it is effect in the lungs, which can be very dangerous and hard to do life threatening
High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE): it is effect in the brain and most difficult to treatment and you need to go hospital attention right way.
Cause
Here are causes of high altitude sickness
You live at near sea level and travel to a high elevation
You have had the sickness before
You climb quickly
You have not acclimatized to the altitude
If you are drink alcohol when you ascend
If you have medical problems of heart, nervous or lungs
Symptoms
These symptoms will appear depend on your speed to climb and how hard you push. Symptoms range from normal to serious. They can affect the nervous system, lungs, muscles, and heart.

Climb the mountain gradually.

Learn how to recognize early symptoms of mountain sickness.

If you are at risk for a low red blood cell count (anemia), ask your provider if your planned trip is safe. Also ask if an iron supplement is right for you. Anemia lowers the amount of oxygen in your blood. This makes you more likely to have mountain sickness.
